Over two years old, time for a change

This website is over two years old now and it's time for a bit of a change. It's been sadly neglected over the years - but while it's still the best place to see what's happening around Scotland's Furry Scene, it's got a few problems that need to be taken care of.

Over the next few weeks, we're going to be changing how some things work on Scotfurs, particularly around how meets are organised and categorised within the site. We're also going to be fixing some outstanding issues, like not being able to reset your password, which frankly have been outstanding for far too long.

We're also going to be making some structural changes behind the scenes of the site to make things easier to update in the future.

You might encounter a few times when visiting that Scotfurs will be in 'read only' mode - this is required so that we can perform the necessary upgrades without having to take the site offline.

Good luck Scotiacon!

It's only a few short months until Scotland's first Furry Convention kicks off.

Registration is still open, so if you want to head over to Inverness and party the weekend away, visit Scotiacon's website to register.

Inverness is a beautiful city in the heart of Scotland's highlands and the Scotiacon team have worked hard to put on a 'Scotland' themed event, offering a sample of the best part of Scotland's export culture.

If you're in the area and able to travel, register to attend, you'll have a great time.

Everyone here at Scotfurs and the whole of the Scottish Fandom wish you the very very best of luck.

Website Moved!

Thanks for your patience during the short downtime. Scotfurs has been moved to its new home and should be a lot more responsive.

If you have any problems with the site, please e-mail .

Website Moving - Some Downtime Expected

Because of a server move, there may be some brief unavailability of the website on Wednesday the 29th of September while DNS Records propagate their way across the internet.

On the 28th of Septembers, the website will be put on 'read only' mode so that no changes are made during the migration. If you land on the site on the 29th and can't add anything; it means things haven't moved over for you yet.

I expect everything will be back to normal by Thursday 30th.

EventWax Used for Some Meets

Occasionally there are some meets which are arranged which require folks to pay some money to go - I'm talking about trips to the NorthernFurs meets down in England; or going out to Karaoke and such like.

These meets all need booking in advance, which usually means someone has to pay for a booking out of their own pocket and then try and get that back from Folks who have been known to be quite reluctant to paying their share.

To make this easier, all the events that are organised by me (Rymew) which have this requirement will be using EventWax (you can find out more about it here) to set places and most importantly, collect cash from folks who want to go.

This keeps things fair and easy. It's safe and all the transactions are processed through PayPal.

The first such meet which falls into this category is the Edinburgh post-meet Karaoke Thing.

Website Updated

A small series of updates have been posted to the website with relation to the opening of accounts and cutting down on Spam:

New users must authenticate their e-mail addresses before they will be able to log-in to the website.

Raskimet has been updated to reduce some of the comment spam we've been getting.

Some other wee updates have been made at the administration back end to make it easier to deal with spam comments should they turn up and to help us track down spurious accounts.

If you have any suggestions for further improvements to the site, please email me.

Sorry it took so long, but the Dundee Meet Pictures are now up for your viewing pleasure.

We're still a big light on the gallery front - if people have pictures from other meets; please post them!

Planned Maintenance and Website Updates

On Monday, June 15th at around 1200 hours, the Scotfurs site may be unavailable for a short time.

This is due to a planned update to the system software on the server which Scotfurs resides. Downtime will be kept to as short a period of time as possible.

This really shouldn't result in any downtime - at the very worst the site will be down for the amount of time it takes for Apache (the web-content serving application) to shut down and restart - something that usually takes a few seconds.

At the same time, an update to the website will be deployed which will:

Allow users to post more than one picture at a time in galleries

Group galleries together (enable galleries to be contained within galleries)

Implement an avatar gallery to allow users to change their avatars without needing to upload again

Show avatars beside comments and event postings

Increase the page-load times and performance of the Scotfurs site

Enhance the back-end underlying Events posting to allow future upgrades in this area

If the maintenance over-runs, or is delayed, the comments on this post will be updated by myself.

The Dundee Scotfurs Meet has been updated and the venue changed. If you're planning to attend, make sure you've checked for the latest details.

New Gallery Up!

The new image gallery is now up and running. At the moment it's fairly basic (and very empty). You can help by creating galleries and adding as many relevant pictures as you can.

Since the galleries (for now) are viewable by anyone, please don't post anything pornographic. Fairly soon the galleries will be updated to mark some as member only and such.

As always, any feedback and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. Hope you enjoy.

Almost Ready! What do you think?

As you all can probably see, the Work In Progress website has been updated substantially
with a lot of nifty newness. This weekend should see the end of the first lot of development
work and see the website finally switched over to live.

The most obvious change after the new appearance of the site is the inclusion of the great
big Google Map on the middle of the main page. All events added to this site, (providing of
course that you have a full address for the venue,) will be automatically plotted and some
useful maps generated to show people exactly where they need to go.

This functionality is still a wee bitty experimental - any feedback about the way the maps
are used is very welcome. As is any other feedback about the website in general.

All members of the site are able to add events - so just Join Up if you aren't already
a member and try it out.

Scotiacon Website is up!

Just noticed this today, but the website for Scotiacon, Scotland's first and only Furry Convention is now up and running, and there's some details of pricing there too.

Don't know how final the information is - but it's certainly worth a look

On its way

Hello everyone, thanks for all of your patience and feedback over the past few months while this new website was being developed.

We're almost ready to switch it on for real, and have only just one or two wee house-keeping things to take care of.

I'll edit this post later with a proper go-live date. In the meantime, please continue to contact on MSN, IRC or PM on the forums (or preferably, by opening a ticket on the Redmine) - all suggestions are considered and welcome.

Thanks again.

Contributing to the Scotfurs Website

For everyone who is wanting to keep up with the latest developments of the Scotfurs Website and to see how exactly certain functionality has been achieved; the development is being tracked on Rymew’s Redmine.

The repository available for browsing there will always show the latest development version of the code which runs the Scotfurs Website; but may not necessarily reflect the version which has been deployed.

Contributions are, of course, welcome from anyone who has the required skills and experience. You may contact Rymew by email at rymew@scotfurs.co.uk.

Issue / Bug tracking is also handled at Rymew’s Redmine, so should you have any problems in using this site – please open a bug ticket in the appropriate category and it will be looked into as soon as is possible.
